Short one today – 20250026431

Hand guards are coming back and are, apparently, sexier than ever. I’ll be the first to tell you I don’t know shit about handguards and I’m going to do zero research on the subject today. I don’t use them, I never used them when I rode dirt bikes as kid, and I don’t intend on using them. That said, to my limited knowledge, Crank Bro seem to be looking to make a cool one.

This appears to be annotated by a 3rd grader, but like a smart 3rd grader.

Figs. 1 and 2 show the new guard and its components. Looks nice. It attaches straight to the grip for a clean-ass look.

Figs. 10 and 12 show the clamp region with a circumferential channel. I would assume the clamp attaches to, at least, Crank Bros grips but maybe they’ll fit on other grips. That channel is where the arm of the hand guard attaches. There’s a set screw 14 that loosens to allow for circumferential adjustment around your hand.

Figs. 14 and 15 show even more adjustment. The arm has two threaded holes to allow the guard to be mounted upward or downward in two locations. There’s a slot in the guard to move it inward and outward, as well.

Here’s the part that I liked and would be of higher-value than a hand guard, for me. Since this is a modular and generalized mounting system, CrankBros shows accessories mounted to the handlebar via the clamp, like a light or bell. So, an entire ‘kit’. The word ‘kit’ is important as that is where the novelty is aimed, and is in the preamble of claim 1.

Lots of adjustment, secondary attachment compatible, likely decent quality – looks cool. I like it. Wonder if we’ll see these on the DH or Enduro circuit. Probably not. This is for the Ebike nerds. And I know we all hate integration, but it does make for some nice looking bikes.
